This third workshop focuses on genetic analysis of samples for rookery stock structure and mixed stock analysis and will feature specific case studies from the Pacific region. An introduction to Genomics will also be presented, including a sample case study. In between, there will be Q&A sessions.

WORKSHOP 4: Illegal Trade, Forensics and the ShellBank Project

This fourth workshop provides an overview of the scale of illegal trade in sea turtle products and of the use of genetic tools to aid in wildlife forensics. A case study will be presented on the ShellBank project, which aims to build traceability and technologies to track the tortoiseshell trade. The process of extracting and sequencing DNA from shells and the importance of a comprehensive reference database will also be presented.
