Asia-Pacific Marine Turtle Genetic Working Group

Building Bridges For Marine Turtle Conservation

The Asia-Pacific Marine Turtle Genetic Working Group aim to foster collaborations throughout Asia and the West Pacific Region.

Although several species of marine turtles use the beaches and waters of nations throughout Asia and the West Pacific Ocean, the status, genetics and habitat connectivity of many populations in this region remain unclear.

Genetic studies can provide support in many areas related to marine turtle management, and as such, genetic research at both local and regional scales are critical to the effective management of marine turtles.

What we aim to do together

Enhance technical capacity, standardize methodologies, identify research priorities, and establish a regional collaborative network to facilitate genetic studies that can support national and international marine turtle management and protection efforts.

Online Workshop Series

To facilitate the creation of the Working Group, identify additional members, support collaboration and sharing, and promote familiarity with field and laboratory genetic techniques, a tentative series of seven online monthly workshops are being planned to be hosted between January and July 2021.
